MLI Information Booklet

Maui Language Institute offers ESL instruction at the Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Upper Advanced students who require an accelerated learning environment and/or a custom-designed curriculum may request semi-private classes.

Instruction is given in all language skill areas:

  • Listening
  • Pronunciation
  • Writing
  • Grammar
  • Reading
  • Vocabulary

Beginning in Spring session, 2007, Maui Language Institute will be offering a new program for students and visitors who are interested in becoming immersed in the Hawaiian culture through hula and chant.

 

Advancing to the Credit Program

When students first enter MLI they take a placement test to determine the level at which they should begin their studies. Students who have successfully completed the Upper Intermediate level may take the college entrance examination. This exam is administered by the college.

Content based courses include:

  • Hula
  • Hawaiian Studies
  • Film Studies
  • Computer Assisted Writing
  • Performing Arts

Custom-designed, semi-private classes draw upon a wide range of curricular materials depending on the individual goals and objectives of each student.

TOEFL

MCC does NOT require a TOEFL score to be admitted. If you already have an official TOEFL score of 450 or higher, you may apply for admission to the credit program.
