Applications for the I-20 are due six weeks before the session begins in order to allow adequate time to issue the necessary immigration documents. In order for Maui Community College to issue the Form I-20 (used to apply for an F-1 student visa from an American Consulate), foreign students must send the following documents:
If you are applying for an F-1 Visa, you must pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee of US $100 if your initial Form I-20 is issued on or after September 1, 2004. The SEVIS I-901 fee is mandated by Congress to support the program office and the automated system that keeps track of students and exchange visitors and ensures that they maintain their status while in the United States. Each student or exchange visitor issued an initial Form I-20 or DS-2019 on after September 1, 2004 is responsible for paying this fee to SEVP.
Upon receipt of your I-20, go to www.ice.gov. From the main menu, scroll over "Border Security" and select SEVIS. On the following page, click on "File the I-901 Form online" and follow the instructions. You will be able to make your payment with a credit card.
**Please note, you will not be able to apply for your I-901 until you have received your I-20, which has your school code and SEVIS ID#. Also, please SAVE YOUR RECEIPT after making your payment of the I-901 fee and bring it with your I-20 to your consulate for the visa interview.
